it may seem like ive got a long way to go, but i went to see the guy about doing motion capture today. i thought if i have the motion capture files ready for me when i finish the character itll be better than having to rush it all once its done. hopefully it will all go as smoothly as this

wafros
today has been a bad hair day.
my last post showed a picture of what happens when you select a bunch of polygons and then attatch a fur modifier, it just sticks straight out. you can then use the brush amoungst other tools to get it to look how you want, however this is not really recomended for longer hairstyles as its very difficult to control.
doesnt look great does it?
also the hair count doesnt seem to be thick enough.
another technique is to use splines to map the direction of the hair but again there seems to be an issue with the density of the hair
im going to need to figure something out FAST. perhaps make a solid object in the shape i want to be a hair then just texture it like hair?

starting on hair
today... has not been a good day.
im in a blind panic about completing everything i want to achieve for the end of the year, deadlines for essays are looming very close overhead and i want to just curl up in a ball underneath the sink and cry.
unfortunately its time to go home just after i had a breakthrough, today, i learned to make hair! have a look, hahaha...
starting drawing
so obviously the next step was to start sketching out some ideas. i havnt really drawn properly for nearing ten years so i had to get a bunch of books to work on my proportion etc because my first attempts were AWFUL
this one was the most useful, really good for cool poses aswell.
here is a bunch of ideas i sketched out

research
ok, this is still a catch up on my progress up until now, the club night is called KAMIKAZE! it is a highly stylized and specialized event, the aesthetics are based around WW2 and japanese culture while still being futuristic and lending from the post apocalyptic genre. so of course, research started with MAD MAX!

first post
brief explanation of what has happened up until now.
I am a fourth year student at RGU's Gray's School of Art,
my final year project is to create a character to personify a club night which will be used to advertise the club night, this means doing a short film using the character and then creating merchandising as well as other ways of advertising the club.
due to various funding problems the university didnt get me a computer or any sort of character modelling program for 8 weeks into the project, although this means i am much further behind on the character modelling process in this point in time than i would like to be, i have done a lot more research than i ordinarally would of done and therefore have come up with some really interesting ideas for the project that i wouldn't of had if i was given the computer straight away.
however, this means i am currently soiling myself about how much work i have to do, especially considering the other compulsory parts of the course i have to complete such as essays etc.
so here is a chronicle of how it all turns out, hopefully this blog will turn out as a tale of triumph over adversity and not a sorrowful account of failure abandoned towards the end because it was too painful to write down and therefore make real my failings.
here is what ive got so far.
