Using the male body proportion study I set about painting today!

I found this tutorial pretty helpful, it is a lot harder than it looks to match everything up though.

building and sculpting technique

Doing the past two studies I had a continual problem with making areas larger or smaller using the sculpt tool. It seems to build in lumps rather than a continuous ridge.

Tonight I have been watching speed sculpting videos and instead of using the sculpt tool to build up areas they use the wax tool and then smooth it out to blend it in. Here is the best example I've seen.

Female study

So after doing the study of male proportion yesterday I thought to be a balanced artist I should go for doing a Study of Female Proportion.

Being a man I have spent much of my life....erhem studying.... female proportion hahaha... so you would think I would find this particular project quite easy, but it was much harder than I expected.

I got a bunch of reference stuff but I only really used the one image.

I wasn't trying to exactly copy this body. I had someone else in mind haha... Also I left out the hands, feet and face as they are definitely something that should be studied by themselves. so please ignore them as they look awful.

back to uni after christmas

Hullo! its masel!

I went back to Edinburgh for Christmas and new year. During that time I worried incessantly about how much work I had to do and how while I was there I wasn't making any progress.

So today is my first proper day back. My friend Josh, http://xxepicxx.deviantart.com/ who is an amazingly talented digital painter recommended that I do 'studies' where I pick something in particular ie facial proportion, hands, eyes, hair etc etc and try to make that particular thing as perfect as I can without focusing on much detail elsewhere.

so I decided I'd try one on male muscle proportion

So I got a bunch of reference imagery

baring in mind I didn't to make a total superhero monster of a man, this is what I came up with. The whole using studies idea seems to work really well. Cheers Josh!
